URD Wire

The underground residential distribution (URD) wire has a conductor made up of strands of compressed aluminum alloy 1350 series. URD Wire is insulated using cross-lined polyethylene (XLPE) that is black in color. Its’ phase conductors and assembled together with neutral conductors forming a twisted cord. It is mostly used in underground electrical wiring systems. You will often find being used in light and medium duty commercial applications. It is also commonly used to supply power in underground residential areas. It has a voltage rating of 600v.

The URD cable meets the standards set by the Underwriters Laboratories as well as the Insulated Cable Engineers Association (ICEA). It is often either installed in ducts or buried. It can be used in environments prone to water and moisture. It also performs well in dry areas. Because of its high resistance to scratching and abrasion, the URD Wires is used in work locations where abrasion is a common occurrence..
